Alcatel-Lucent 1830 Photonic Service Switch
The Alcatel-Lucent 1830 Photonic Service Switch (PSS) is a multi-reach photonic platform providing the first commercially available support for best-in-class, single-carrier 100G next generation coherent technology. Building on the unique Zero-Touch Photonics approach, which enables easier operations for reduced costs and accelerated time-to-market for wavelength services, the Alcatel-Lucent 1830 PSS is poised to meet the new requirements for a next-generation photonic network: the Alcatel-Lucent 1830 PSS can mimic the flexibility, automation and fast time-to-service capabilities of electrical-based transport networks.
- Provides huge capacity in a scalable and sustainable manner to deliver next-generation IP services at the lowest cost per bit
- Avoids the under-utilization or overbuild of optical and routing assets and allows traffic forwarding at the most economical layer
- Leverages SDH/SONET assets and operational models for smooth evolutionary upgrading to higher-capacity OTN
- Enables the transparent transport of multiple operators’ traffic, all with end-to-end control and quality assurance
- Reduces operating expenditures (OPEX) with a high-density, low-power per bit design
Features:
- A metro, regional and long-haul dense wavelength division multiplexing (DWDM) platform with terabit OTN switching modules in addition to DWDM modules. Optical and electrical cross-layer functionality allows for traffic forwarding to the most economical layer for resource optimization and lowest power consumption
- Medium and large-scale terabit switch-based transport backbones with OTN networking and GMPLS intelligence - Lambda, port and sub-port grooming options (designed to support the Alcatel-Lucent High Leverage Network converged backbone architecture)
- Non-blocking ODUk any-to-any port grooming and switching allows for efficient filling of wavelengths
- Tunable/reconfigurable optical add-drop multiplexer (T&ROADM) photonic switching, up to ten degrees
- 88 channels at 2.5G, 10G, 40G and 100G (including 40G PDM-BPSK and 100G PDM-QPSK coherent detection)
- Optical and electrical GMPLS/ASON control plane technology offers multiple restoration schemes with resilience to multiple failures, for differentiated degrees of service quality assurance end to end
- Photonic operations, administration and maintenance (OA&M) with Wavelength Tracker, to monitor and trace each wavelength at any point in the network
- High port density
