Alcatel-Lucent 1850 Transport Service Switch TSS-5C
The Alcatel-Lucent 1850 Transport Service Switch TSS-5C is a compact Packet Optical Transport (POT) switch ideally suited for mobile backhaul, Carrier Ethernet, and multi-service business applications. With GigE/FE network interfaces and GigE/FE/TDM service interfaces, it is a flexible, robust solution for transport over fiber or copper. The Alcatel-Lucent 1850 TSS-5C is compliant with Metro Ethernet Forum (MEF) and T-MPLS/MPLS-TP standards, and supports PWE3 circuit emulation service (CES) over Ethernet as well as multiple synchronization options. As networks become increasingly IP/Ethernet oriented, this product enables service providers to migrate to Packet Transport Networks while maintaining support for legacy services.
Particularly well suited for 2G/3G/4G mobile backhaul applications, pure Ethernet access demarcation, and aggregation of TDM and Ethernet services in general, the Alcatel-Lucent 1850 TSS-5C is applicable to any market where TDM and Ethernet services must be delivered in a reliable, cost-effective manner.

An integral part of the broader Alcatel-Lucent 1850 TSS portfolio, the Alcatel-Lucent 1850 TSS-5C collects customer traffic and feeds into higher-capacity Alcatel-Lucent Optics products, such as the Alcatel-Lucent 1850 TSS-100 and Alcatel-Lucent 1850 TSS-320.
Benefits:
- Evolves existing networks: Gracefully transitions from TDM-based to packet-based network architectures. Eliminates overlay networks for packet services
- Key application: Mobile backhaul - TDM and packet traffic backhaul for 2G, 3G and 4G base stations. Multiple synchronization options. Environmentally hardened for cell-site deployment. 9-Gb/s switching fabric offers room for growth for even the most heavily loaded cells
- Key application: Ethernet access demarcation with extensive OAM support. Media conversion and distance extension supported with a wide range of SFP interface options
- Additional application: Delivery of TDM (voice) and Ethernet services for SME/large enterprises. Unified platform reduces service provisioning lead times and OPEX
- T-MPLS and MPLS-TP support for packet transport
- Can be deployed in space-limited, environmentally tough conditions
Features:
- Flexible aggregation of TDM (E1/DS1/STM-1) or Ethernet (FE/GigE) services over Ethernet transport
- T-MPLS/MPLS-TP and MEF compliance for QoS, traffic protection, strong OAM
- Synchronization: IEEE 1588 v2, Synchronous Ethernet with SSM provides accurate sync to base-stations
- CES of T1/E1 (SAToP) over Ethernet via static MPLS pseudowires (PWE3) with 1 + 1 BFD-based label switched path (LSP) protection
- Compact 1U device is environmentally hardened for outside-plant deployment
- Feeds into higher-capacity Alcatel-Lucent TSS portfolio products for network-level efficiency and scaling
- Network management by the Alcatel-Lucent 1350 OMS/1340 INC
