Alcatel-Lucent 1850 Transport Service Switch (TSS-5)
The Alcatel-Lucent 1850 Transport Service Switch, TSS-5 is a compact, modular optical transport switch ideally suited for mobility backhaul and multiservice business applications. With TDM and Ethernet for service and network interfaces, it is a flexible, robust solution for transport over fiber or copper. The Alcatel-Lucent 1850 TSS-5 supports PWE3 circuit emulation service (CES) over Ethernet. The combination of CES pseudowires with native TDM transport and Ethernet over SONET/SDH enables service providers to create hybrid optical/packet networks for smooth network migration as traffic become increasingly IP/Ethernet oriented.
Particularly well suited for 2G/3G/4G mobility-backhaul applications, and aggregation of TDM and Ethernet services in general, the Alcatel-Lucent 1850 TSS-5 is further applicable to any market where TDM and Ethernet services co-exist.
An integral part of the broader Alcatel-Lucent 1850 TSS portfolio, the Alcatel-Lucent 1850 TSS-5 operates in the access/aggregation layer of hybrid optical/packet transport networks. It feeds into higher-capacity Alcatel-Lucent Optics products, such as the Alcatel-Lucent 1850 TSS-100 and Alcatel-Lucent 1850 TSS-320.
Benefits:
- Evolves existing networks: Gracefully transitions from TDM-based to packet-based transport. Eliminates overlay networks for packet services
- Key application - mobility backhaul - smoothly transitions from TDM to packet for 2G, 3G and 4G networks. CES/pseudowire for flexible backhaul. Environmentally hardened for cell-site deployment. Cost-effective, Layer 1 and Layer 2 oriented network infrastructure
- Additional application: hybrid TDM and Ethernet services for business and residential services: Unified platform for both services. Shorten time to market
- Mixed services (data, voice and multimedia) on one platform
- Seamlessly operates in circuit and packet networks
Features:
- Flexible aggregation of any TDM or Ethernet service over TDM or Ethernet transport
- CES of T1/E1 (SAToP) over Ethernet via static MPLS pseudowires (PWE3) with 1 + 1 BFD-based label switched path (LSP) protection
- IEEE 1588 v2 packet synchronization for transport of delay-sensitive traffic (e.g., voice) over Ethernet
- Carrier-grade Ethernet with SONET/SDH reliability
- Interfaces: E1/T1, E3/DS3; FE/GE; STM-1/4; OC-3/12
- Compact design is environmentally hardened for outside-plant deployment
- Feeds into higher-capacity products in Alcatel-Lucent TSS portfolio for network-level efficiency and scaling
